The opening of the airport provides greater convenience to private flyers who previously have had to fly into the notoriously slot-restricted Naples International Airport (NAP).
Nicknamed ‘millionaires coast’, Amalfi is widely revered as one of the most luxury destinations in the entire world. With around 5 million people visiting the region every year, the local council has recently announced some exciting developments in a bid to boost luxury tourism in the region while still retaining its position on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
About the new airport
The airfield, built in 1926, has a rich history, having served as a military airport, flying school, firefighting centre, and private airport over the years. A brand-new passenger terminal is set to be completed in 2026. In the meantime, the airport has opened for limited flight service. Despite ongoing construction, the two 1,962m runways accommodate most private jet models. However, it is also worth noting that the airport closes nightly from 10:30 PM to 5:00 AM.
There is a car park with 150 parking spaces located directly in front of the airport, and the parking is free. With more upgrade works planned and a brand new terminal on the drawing board, the airport will offer another exciting destination for those looking to explore southern Italy. It will cut down the transfer time to places like the Cilentan Coast and the stunning beaches and villages along Italy’s stunning southern coastline. As it stands, apart from private jets, only some budget airlines will be offering a limited schedule with routes coming from London, Milan, Turin, Nantes, and Malta.
